The Liberals in Ottawa can make or break industry. When RTZ replaced the Liberal engineering firm, SNC on their NWT diamond mine development, all of a sudden permits were not forthcoming. Two years later, after re hiring SNC and making it rain little brown envelopes in Ottawa, with Liberal bag men scurrying to pick them up, the development again proceeded. Before a pipeline down the McKenzie Valley or Alaska Highway is approved, the oil companies in Calgary will either have to make it rain little brown envelopes in Ottawa or hope and pray for a change in government. Liberal bag men are secretly making promises accross the country in the hope of collecting campaign funds for the upcoming election. Although it is a pipedream, I secretly hope that Liberal campaign funds are not forthcoming. Unfortunately, with their friends in high places, like on the boards of Canadian Banks, I am certain the Liberal party will have all the campaign funds they need (watch for approval of bank mergers). There is too much money at stake for friends of Canada's natural ruling party.
