Thank you! Your advise for non-experts appreciated.

My wife and I often take walks in some pretty quiet, rural areas. During those walks I often carry a gun. Our concern is not so much about bad guys as - potentially - about dangerous animals. I never saw any, but there is talk about some nasty wild dogs living in the area. There are some wild boors. Not long ago, a friend's motion sensitive camera took a picture of a big mighty cougar killing a deer - right by his deer stand.
