Virgin Express December Traffic Rises on New Services

Brussels, Jan. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Virgin Express Holdings
Plc, Europe's No. 2 low-fare airline, said its traffic as
measured by revenue passenger miles rose 20.3 percent in
December from a year ago, as it added new routes to Berlin.
Revenue passenger miles climbed to 126.1 million compared
with 104.9 million a year earlier. Seating capacity expanded 22
percent to 180.3 million passenger miles as the company began
new services to Berlin from Brussels, London and Rome Nov. 10.
In November, revenue-passenger miles -- the number of
passengers traveling multiplied by the number of miles flown --
rose 18.5 percent while capacity grew 17.8 percent.
The amount of seating capacity filled, or load factor, fell
1.1 percentage point in December to 70 percent from a year ago,
following a 0.4-point gain in November to 70.3 percent from
November 1998.
The airline, part of Richard Branson's Virgin Group Ltd.,
is based in Brussels and operates low-fare flights to London,
Madrid, Nice and other destinations.
Virgin Express shares were unchanged at 14.45 euros in
Brussels.
