ZAWTECH INTERNATIONAL, INC.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

ZAWTECH INTERNATIONAL, INC. has received R&D Magazine's 100 award for its commercial development of the ZAWCAD (Zero Added Waste Cutting, Abrading and Drilling) technologies. As part of the U.S. government initiative to transfer cogent technologies to the private sector, ZawTech, through the government's transfer agency, Lockheed Martin, acquired exclusive, national licenses for the manufacture and sales of the patented ZAWCAD technologies (including first right of refusal for over 200 countries). ZawTech's proven technologies address nuclear waste remediation, military decommissioning and decontamination, and other hazardous clean up issues, by not adding additional waste to the clean up process. These technologies are the Cryogenic ZAWCAD and the Laser ZAWCAD.

The Cryogenic Zawcad uses high-velocity jets of liquefied and solidified atmospheric gases, such as low temperature nitrogen, to address surface coating removal and hazardous waste clean up without adding to the waste stream. The nitrogen quickly reverts to an inert gas, taking none of the contaminated particulate with it.

Traditional solutions for removing contaminated or unwanted surface coatings involved grinding the surface with abrasives or chemically treating the surface with solvents or acids to lift the surface coating for scraping. EPA and OSHA restrictions on solvents and acids have forced modern industry to turn increasingly to two alternatives: (1) sandblasting, or other pneumatically driven particulate, and (2) water jetting. When cleaning an exposed area with these typical materials, they also become contaminated as they come into contact with the contaminated surface. Thus, these conventional cleanup efforts add volume to the waste stream and, in hazardous situations, require additional treatment of the material used in the cleaning or cutting process. The Cryogenic ZAWCAD system eliminates secondary waste.

The Cryogenic ZAWCAD system consists of a highly evaporative fluid supply, high pressurization, precision nozzle and process control. Low temperature nitrogen offers the most promising, cost-effective fluid solution, but other gases may well have specific roles. Advantages of the Cryogenic ZAWCAD system are:

 Liquid nitrogen does not create a secondary waste stream and leaves only the hazardous material as a residue;
 Nitrogen is relatively cheap (comprising 78% of our atmosphere) and is available everywhere, and;
 Nitrogen is extremely safe, posing no hazard of explosion, fire or oxidation reaction.

By controlling fluid pressure, volume, the process distance from the material being treated, the speed and angle of movement across the treated surface, and the number and type of nozzles, cryogenic cleaning and cutting is performed with great control and consistent results. With its speed and efficiency, a commercially viable, real world solution to many industrial problems has been developed.
Applications of the Cryogenic ZAWCAD include, but are not limited to, cutting and drilling on paper products, insulation, food, plastics and metals as well as providing coatings and debris removal from surfaces and radiological and other hazardous waste decontamination.

Laser ZAWCAD technology uses a high power remote laser operating through a totally unique proprietary fiber optic cable delivery system to provide the laser access to areas previously unreachable. This system delivers a stronger and more rapid pulse which not only gives the laser beam more punch, but enhances its ability to remotely reach into difficult areas to clean, strip or cut. The process by which the ZawTech laser cleans is called "ablation." By rastering (roughing up with a surface pass) a given surface at the proper wave length and beam size, the contaminant is released from the substrate. When the vacuum system is attached, the released residue is captured for disposal or destruction.

High energy lasers can now clean substrates of many contaminates not deemed possible a short time ago. Until now, major negatives to laser use were (1) power, (2) portability and (3) remote access. With the ZAWCAD, our high energy laser is a vital tool in hazardous decontamination or de-commission work. The ZawTech laser is compact and portable and ideal for job site tasks. The fiber optic cable allows powerful remote energy delivery to a work area in excess of 495 feet away from the laser generator thus allowing the operator to work safely on a hazardous cleanup. Employing robotics, ZawTech provides the systems integration to assure optimum function between the source laser, the delivery system and the robotic working unit.

ZawTech offers alternatives that saves millions of waste disposal dollars by eliminating additional waste production, handling and decontamination. ZawTech systems are applicable to a wide range of categories with multiple opportunities within each. Primary category groups are:

 D.O.E. Site Cleanup & Decommissioning,
 D.O.D. Demilitarization,
 Civil Nuclear Decontamination, and
 Commercial/Industrial On-Site Systems with applications for cleaning; paint stripping on aircraft, automobiles and ships; and scaling and residue removal from vats, pipes and boilers.

ZAWCAD also provides the technology to precisely cut multiple materials including metals, ceramics, glass, composites, concrete, rubber, wood, textiles, and food products eliminating health concerns and waste.

A major benefit of having two distinct "leading edge" technologies is the ability to pick which may work best in a given situation. This may be determined by the materials to be treated or the physical elements germane to the site. In this respect, the two technologies complement one another.

Both technologies offer a great range of power and a high degree of control. They encourage a wide variety of applications. They provide solutions to formerly "unsolvable" problems. They afford the opportunity for millions of dollars in sales.
ZawTech International has every ingredient for success:

Proprietary technologies which address critical, unmet environmental, safety and processing/manufacturing needs,
An unusual number of valid applications for its technologies which furnishes a broad and diverse base of industrial and governmental customers, Product patents initiated by the D.O.E., Patent infringement legal support provided by the D.O.E and Lockheed Martin, and Low manufacturing cost.

ZawTech's opportunities are as immense as the number of ZAWCAD's vital applications.
