The divisiveness is rooted in a number of factors. One is social philosophy. The Right is selfish and wants to keep as much of their money for themselves as possible. They feel they have earned it. They are willing to pay for things that suits them, such as the military (to preserve their wealth and property) and infrastructure since they have cars which travel on roads and bridges. But g-d forbid spending involves helping someone out who is less privileged than themselves, forget about it. Let them drop dead! They are just lazy worthless human beings!

Now obviously that's not my view. I love human beings from all cultures and all walks of life. I couldn't care less if they are American or not. If a person has a problem paying for healthcare or for groceries/rent, I think the government should have compassion and help these people out. I think the welfare of these people are more important than building a B1 Bomber or missile! Humans have value to me and shouldn't be treated like garbage that you dispense with.

But conservatives don't feel that way. Those who can't make it in the jungle they call life, should perish. I find that view disgusting and abhorrent. And I can never be friends with someone like that. Moreover, I'm sick, along with a lot of people here on this thread, of hearing the same right wing BS over and over again. If they had some other kind of reasoning at their disposal, I'd be open to listening. But they don't. It is the same insensitive, inhumane crap I hear each time.
