Lauer Asks Powell About Rumor
March 1, 2004
Matt Lauer on Monday asked Secretary of State Colin Powell about a rumor. Lauer asked: Some are speculating, and I'd like your comment on this, that John Kerry had an affair with a woman who used to work for the associated… Oh, wait a minute, wrong rumor. I'm sorry, Mr. Powell. No, folks, he didn't really say that. What he asked was: "Some are speculating -- and I'd like your comment on this -- that Osama bin Laden may have already been captured. Can you confirm or deny this?"
Well who does Matt Lauer think he is all of a sudden, Matt Drudge, spreading rumors and gossip and speculation? I thought irresponsible rumor mongering only happened on the Drudge Report. But, lo and behold, my friends, here's Matt Lauer spreading an unsubstantiated rumor. Where did it start? We know where: with the Democrats, probably in the Democratic National Committee with Terry McAuliffe.
Matt Lauer put it out there. If there's a rumor that bin Laden's been captured, we know where it has to have come from: the people who would be most harmed by his capture. Stop and think about that. Who would be most harmed if bin Laden is captured? You're saying Al-Qaeda? No, my friends. It's the United States Democratic Party. Again: the institution in the world most damaged by the capture of Osama bin Laden would be the Democratic Party, not the Al-Qaeda terrorist network! These people are in abject panic that we've already captured bin Laden. So here's Lauer, with no proof or evidence, bringing it up because "everybody is talking about it." Well, everybody was talking Kerry's affair. Everybody knows that Kerry is a horndog, but they're not going to dare run with that. "We wouldn't run it if we had pictures of it," said the Washington Post. They don't have any evidence whatsoever that Osama bin Laden has been captured nor do they even know where the rumor came from, but that doesn't matter. They'll speculate and talk about it all day long, and even have Matt Lauer ask the secretary of state about it. It's just amazing.
