Daddy: here is a post from the Ballard thread, on the subject of the clean auto engines. They use the low sulphur gas and I believe are HPDI. However there is some talk that if you drive these cars on regular gas the converter is clogged up with the emissions.

Most people think the future of clean transportation is the fuel cell, and the fossil-fuel fed internal combustion engine cannot meet or beat stiff clean-air standards such as those in California. A new study from researchers at the University of California, Riverside, reveals that new low-emission vehicles with gasoline engines are as clean as hybrid-electric vehicles powered by gasoline, and can meet those tough standards. The study involved a small number of low-emission vehicles – the super-ultra-low-emission rated Nissan ‘‘Sentra’’ and Honda ‘‘Accord’’ models – that can exceed the current standards using California’s clean-burning, reformulated gasoline. If the numbers hold up to wider testing, UCR researcher Jim Lentz says, ‘‘it will further support the idea that Los Angeles can meet the 2010 federal, and state, air quality standards.’’ A spokesman for the Union of Concerned Scientists noted, ‘‘while cleaner gas engines are vital to air quality now, ultimately we must move beyond combustion engines.’’ -
