Here is a link to the OCT '99 issue of cdmaWorld. I would definitely recommend reading this for anyone who is remotely interested in the fundamentals....lots of good information on the progress of CDMA and the transition to 3G.

cdg.org

Just a couple of highlights from one of the articles....

- Nortel is in testing for a basestation, called the "boomer", which allow coverage of distances upto 180km. The product should be available in 2nd quarter 2000. Does anyone how this compares to GSM/TDMA?
- The new basestations which are currently being installed seem incredibly easy to upgrade to 3G. The transition from IS-95 to 1xrtt involves a change in a circuit pack....only digital, No RF. The change from 1xrtt to 3xrtt is even easier...just a software upgrade. No wonder China is getting serious about CDMA <g>.
