"If you can explain it, I am listening."

For people who don't understand it and truly want some insight, our exposure to and involvement with the regime of Saddam should have been very enlightening. Do you recall the 100% approval vote he received just prior to our invasion. Yet we now know how unhappy many people were with Saddam and why. Do you think he would get that approval if the votes were cast today? Do you honestly think the 100% embrace was out of love for a benevolent dictator? Surely not. If you can get that far, you should be able to imagine that what appears as an embrace for other dictators may not be out of genuine fondness. Eh?

Knowing what you know about the methods used by Saddam to establish coerced loyalties you should be able to imagine that these or similar approaches are effectively employed elsewhere. After generations of being taught to shut up and obey or watch your loved ones be tortured to death, do you think you could understand the reluctance to speak against your dictator? If not generations of your roof, your cloting, your spoon and its contents being under the control of the dictator might be pursuasive. If not just go to Khaddafi and tell him what a piece of sh*t you think he is. I'm sure you'll get some understanding beat into you in a hurry, if you survive. That's only the tip of this ice berg but it should get you thinking.

"I am listening."

I doubt it but we'll see.
