The men and women laughing softly into the summer night at Priest Lake and Lake Pendoreille would feel comfortable with him and he would feel comfortable with them -- and that may yet tell the tale in this election. He is one of us.

Sandpoint is about 35 minutes North. I was up there last weekend for the antique auto show.

Ben Stein is exactly right. Folks around here are upbeat and enjoying life. Everyone around here has an outdoor activity of some sort. The general mood is very positive. The couple we had dinner with last night told us they have quit reading the newspapers. He said they are tired of the "blatant influence peddling". They are both Democrats planning to vote for Bush. They readily stated they would rather not but do not consider Kerry anything more than a typical, blowhard, East Coast politician. She said, "Kerry has no substance. He has no sense of integrity and no honor. He is not a real man."

I read yesterday that early season traffic into Yellowstone is the highest ever. The word is getting out that Northern Idaho, Wyoming and Montana truly are last best places.

At local elections in Coeur d'Alene two weeks ago, Republican voters outnumbered Demos 2:1. The sweep was so pronounced, it made headlines locally.

I don't know what it is like around Kerry's wife's mansion down South...But the reports we get are the locals hate the intrusion by Secret Service in their otherwise quiet lives. I also understand Kerry was never able to get a large crowd together when he came here this winter to fall off his snowboard.

When few to none attended events where Kerry's presence was pre-announced, his staff tried to say that he came here to relax and not inject himself in local politics... Yeah right. Everyone knew that was a lie. The fact that he always skiied alone says it all.
