Vital Statistics - 12/29/99

For the week ending Dec. 17, 1999, the unit sales of DVD players to dealers slowed slightly at 97,660, however, this is still an 110.8 percent increase over 1998 sales. Projection television sales were average at 29,992 when compared to recent statistics, but remains 12.7 percent ahead of last year.

Month-to-date, DVD player sales were 372,043, a 184.6 percent increase over last year. Projection television sales were 100,588, a significant 32.5 percent increase from last year?s sales.

Year-to-date DVD player sales are lingering just under the 4 million mark at 3,797,691, a 285 percent increase from 1998 and projection television sales are 1,169,916, a 14.4 percent increase.

Although DVD player sales were somewhat slow the week prior to Christmas, it did not affect DVD title sales. For the week ending Dec. 19, 1999, DVD title sales surpassed the million mark with 1.27 million DVD titles sold! This is a remarkable increase that really reinforces the fact that DVD was on the top of many wish lists this year. Year-to-date, the total number of DVD titles sold is 19.5 million!
