Consumer Explodes to the Upside? 4/6/04 2:22 PM ET Cody Willard from TheStreet.com Just got off the phone with one of the smartest hedge fund dudes I know. He's pounding the table that the consumer is far from spent-up, but is actually, in essence, pent-up. Talk about a contrarian idea. His reasons are straightforward enough. Employment has finally started kicking in, the economy is just getting started rocking, and household cash flows are high already and about to get higher (debt levels be damned, he says). I think the consumer is steady and will remain so, but I just love the contrarianism in his take and thought I'd pass it along, FWIW.
