Your "golden rule" is very self-centered and does not take into account what other people think. Unless your golden rule is only to be interpreted in a very abstract way, Masochism is a very good example of a subculture that shouldn't adopt the golden rule. If you are a masochist, I hope we'll never meet. In asia, many people often let out some not-so-fresh body air after they have eaten. I they would do that in a restaurant over here, they would be kicked out immediately, since the golden rule is usually not a valid excuse for harassing other people over here. If a friend of mine found a funny joke picture on the internet, that involved nudity, I could expect him to show it to me. Since I don't use the golden rule, I wouldn't show a nudity picture to an islamic priest. You may say I have a problem, but I could get a much bigger problem with islamic priests. Remember Salman Rushdie? For some time, he didn't get much sun...
