the progressive income tax. That has a few little side effects too. It greatly increases the "soak the rich" attitude. Not that you see that as a problem, being one of the prime practitioners. It greatly increases government wealth and consequently power, thereby decreasing individual liberty. One recent comment on another board is that the 70% or more of people now in prison would have committed no crimes under the laws 100 years ago. It greatly decreases individual incentive. What's the point of doing something, such as perfecting an invention or starting a company, that will greatly increase your income if the gov't (which contributed not one late night and not one idea) gets the lion's share of the reward? Estate tax? Leave it alone. There was a valid social purpose- -preventing hereditary economic aristocracy- -in passing it.
