I'm also looking for a laptop, and a friend suggested that I stick to Compaq or AST. According to him, they are the best choices for reliability and service. I saw a Compaq Presario 1215(180 MHz) for $1499 in the latest Tiger catalogue. As far as the display, I've heard that the active matrix is the best, but I plan on deciding by physically looking at them in my local CompUSA store.
