Dennis: Yes. This is not ambiguous at all. But it is Taiwan, not the mainland. And even this is not crystal clear as to how many licenses will be issued when. But the system is clear. This is CDMA One - the Q's system - in its most advanced stage at the time of launch. The jargon is (sort of) IS-95 is the base. Then letters are added to indicate the improvements in that base. IS-95 B is the system in use in Japan with faster data rates. IS-95 C is the next version - again with more advanced Q chips for infrastructure and handsets. (Note: This may refer to IXRTT or a step toward it - not sure) 1XRTT will be the initial stage of CDMA 2000. Then (and separately) HDR may be added alongside. Dr J has said the time table for 1XRTT is to begin commercial operations toward the end of this year and the introduction of HDR is early next year. The handset chips for 1XRTT are available now, and the chips for the infrastructure in March. Then there will be testing. And then the commercial roll out. Dr J has said that since the 1XRTT doubles voice capacity at little additional cost (plus more rapid data - its primary purpose), he foresees quick and comprehensive adoption. HDR is on a separate track and will be tried out first in Korea. The Q and MSFT have provided seed money for that to happen. Japan is moving rapidly up the IS 95 scale now. These are CDMA One stages. Hope this helps. Again I am no tech wiz, just an observer, but think this is accurate. If not assume, engineer or Clark will correct and of course either one of them (or others) may wish to amplify.
