Rude, we have covered this but it needs repeating. Yes, you
have outlined the approximate gaussian distribution.. 10-80-10.

The arguments JP and others make is "that's it". 266 from now
until forever 0-100-0 distribution the high-end is toast and
anyone playing there is dead because demand is decreasing.

Well, as you've outlined, the demand balance has not changed
much over the last ten years. What has changed is the technology,
absolute costs and volumes. That bell curve just keeps on sliding
to the right maintaining its relative shape as old technologies
fall off and new ones are added.

Surely Gartner does not just equate performance with cpu speed.
Can you not configure high-end machines with a 266Mhz cpu? Sure
you can so a 266 recommendation only has a loose relationship to ASP
impact. The only constant is that 266 based machines have
median configurations that place them around the $1500 price
point. I wonder what the ASP distribution curve looks like
just for 266 desktops?
