From the answer given by Terry Matthews to the first Q in the Conference call, it appears that Sprint ION is:

1. A set of plans rather than a service which can be bought now.

2. Much less bulletproof than required for most corporate data services. i.e. - if a Voice call is lost, who cares. The customer will call back. If a critical Data Network is lost, many businesses are unable to do business.

IMO, if CSCO delivers another fiasco such as they did to AT&T last month, their name will rapidly become mud from a Carrier and Large Corporate data network perspective. There's a huge difference between their traditional strengths and those required to build the ION vision.

But your point is absolutely valid. The analysts are impressed, initially at least, with the Sprint Press release. Reality will sink in sooner or later.

Ian.
