Craig,

I believe Osicom competing in a competitive industry like Networking with superior products is different than it competing in a newly developing industry with no competitors. Even if Osicom's products were better than Ascend's, they would be hard to sell because of Ascend's brand name. Marketing theory...

The Gigamux, on the other hand, is as far as I can tell the only product in this growing short-haul segment of the market. They aren't yet competing with anyone else. Ciena, I'm pretty sure, doesn't have its products out in the short-haul market and neither do any other big companies. They have the market to themselves at this point.

Maybe they will be forced into a small market share by big players sometime in the future due to a lack of cash or brand name, but I would bet that a bigger company (Cisco?) with cash and a brand name would easily take the chance on the Gigamux for a paltry couple hundred million.

If you can tell me why the Gigamux is worse than its competitors products, and therefore why Cisco wouldn't buy the company, please do so. Then go tell that to the Forrester's Report.
