Ibexx, re; Intel roadmap charts. Not only are they great, but very interesting. These appear to be Intel Confidential charts posted on Tom's Hardware website. Based on them it appears that Intel will have six chips for the desktop market in Q4'98, and will be the basic chips until Katmai appears in 2H'99. Also interesting that while Intel segments the desktop roadmap by system price range, they use the same price points for both Home and Business. It's interesting, for example, that you will be able to purchase a PII/400 MHZ system for ~$1.5K in Q4, or a PII/450 for $2K! If you extrapolate the chip price based on these criteria I think we're looking at a PII/350 for less then $200, a PII/400 for around $250, and <$350 for a PII/450. Mendocino will have to come in about $150, Covington at about $100 and the P55C will probably be under $75. Certainly illustrates the consumer gets speed enhancements for free. Six chips covering a $1202 system price spread, very interesting. As usual, these observations are my own opinions and don't necessarily represent fact. |
