Re: "In Europe, consumers aren't very willing to buy mail-order or over the internet, at least compared to the US. "

There are a LOT of advantages for doing this in the US.

First - if you order from an out-of-state supplier, you don't pay any STATE sales tax (8+ % in California).

Second - you get delivery to your door step - lots of shippers here - UPS, Fed-EX, Airborne, etc.

Third - Easy shopping - from your computer or telephone - no need to fight crowds or deal with parking issues.

Fourth - good pricing - you can choose from MANY MANY sources - often negotiating prices.

Europe surprises me - I have seen technology adopted over there that is 10 years ahead of what we have here (example -wireless electronic order pads by Waitresses - even in small towns in France - circa 1993/1994 ! ). I have NOT seen that here in the US yet - perhaps it exists in some larger cities.

Cell phone adoption is also much more widespread in Europe.
