Intel beat AMD not because of the ads but rather the inability of AMD to bring products to market in timely fashion. Since the 386 generation, AMD has always been lagging INTC in speed. (Even until now although the speed is more like a non-issue lately...) By having time-to-market advantage, Intel has always been getting the bucks. AMD has to cut price, sometimes below operational earning level, to compete with Intel's always speedier chip. Similarly for HD makers, everyone is competing for the first to market 2.8GB/p drives; Maxtor got there first and is not in a demanding position. Next stop is 3.1GB/p; the first one gotten there will again get the EARLY BIRD SPECIAL!

BTW, I wouldn't mind using an AMD-equipped computer as long as it's comparable to Intel's. Especially lately since it costs some 25% lower in a complete system at the same clock speed.

Branding ads for disk-drives are really nonsense. The best hard-drive should be working perfectly flawlessly and quietly behind-the-scene. It's more like offensive linemen in a football game. The best of those never had the name mentioned. But after each season ends, the nameless heroes got invited to the Pro Bowl (like DD makers getting awards). It's being there to get their name recognized and have their salary justified.
