Blanket Purchase Agreement Supplements Existing Technology Contract, Allows Air Force To Order Systems Directly From Dell
ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 1998--Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today announced that the U.S. Air Force has selected Dell as one of two vendors for a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) which supplements the existing Desktop V (DT-V) contract currently in place for technology procurement. The agreement calls for Dell to provide Dimension(R) and OptiPlex(R) desktop PCs, Latitude(R) CP notebooks and PowerEdge(R) 2300 servers to the Air Force.
The BPA will allow all departments of the Air Force to purchase computers and servers directly from Dell and will run through March 31, 1999. To help streamline procurement, Dell plans to develop a customized online store that allows Air Force employees to configure, price and purchase systems and peripherals through the World Wide Web.
"The awarding of this agreement further demonstrates the Air Force's commitment to providing the latest technology at the best prices," said Ro Parra, vice president and general manager, Dell Americas, Public and International.
Dell has a dedicated account, technical and support staff that will work directly with the Air Force to tailor solutions for each base. Via the BPA, Dell can deliver most custom-configured systems within 5 to 7 days.
"The BPA is a dedicated purchasing vehicle that allows Dell to provide Air Force customers with the technology they want, when they want it, at a lower cost," said Bob McFarland, vice president and general manager, Dell Federal.
"Dell understands our commitment to providing the Air Force access to the best technology for the best prices," said U. S. Air Force Col. Delbert B. Atkinson, SSG vice director. "We are continually striving to simplify the procurement process for the Air Force while giving access to top-notch, award-winning technology at competitive prices."
The Air Force can select from four Dell product families: Latitude notebook PCs, OptiPlex and Dimension desktops or PowerEdge servers.
