That's debatable. One one hand, MS AppsCo could sell more if it were split off, because its products would be allowed to sell on other platforms. On the other hand, MS OpsCo would have to remove the Office bludgeon from its market-power arsenal as a weapon to control its customers and competitors. And isn't that awesome market power arsenal, seeded by IBM, really what has put Microsoft where it is today?

I believe that on balance, the combination will be worth less, because (1) MS OpsCo will fade into irrelevance more quickly after the split, and (2) competition in the stifled office-software market will blossom when MS AppsCo suddenly has to compete fairly.
