Given time, many democrats may see the folly of the European model, but many won't even as it collapses.

No doubt about it. The worst are the media, which is devolving into a leftist fan club (and we know the derivation of the word "fan"). Many among our intelligentsia will not analyze their beliefs even if the sky will be falling down. But maybe enough people will start using their own heads.

I think it is actually important to understand the thought system of the Left, the nature of their ideas, the psychology of their beliefs. Without having done work in these respects we risk getting dragged down to their level - building and fighting straw men, emotionalism.

Let them do it, they have nothing better -- but we DO. We have ideas that work - they do not. The better we understand them, without demonising and emotionalism, the more effective we'll be. They are about to get us into deep trouble, and some anger is natural. BUT - the Keynesian economic ignorance is to a large extent bipartisan.

One of my sons, some years ago, while in Law school, became interested in "fairness", in how governments actually are doing good work in some respects, and so on. I panicked. I got him a copy of the "Atlas", and, fortunately, he is an open minded guy, and was receptive. I think the book helped him work out those issues. Thanks, Ayn!... :)

Those on the Left need to understand that their beliefs are a case of "perfect" being the enemy of "good" -- and that attempts to get to that "perfect" are inevitably counterproductive.
