Ericsson selected as 3G WCDMA supplier for Tele1 Europe

7/7/2000 Ericsson (Stockholm, Sweden) has been selected as preferred 3G supplier for Tele1 Europe Holding AB. Under the agreement, Ericsson will deliver a WCDMA system and services if Tele1 Europe is granted a license.
Tele1 Europe is applying for a license for UMTS networks in Sweden and Norway and Ericsson will support Tele1 Europe in that process. This is the seventh 3G agreement awarded to Ericsson.

As preferred supplier, Ericsson will deliver and implement a 3G system based on WCDMA, including services and mobile phones. Ericsson will actively be part of features and end-user service development for Tele1 Europe. Ericsson will also be the preferred supplier of the GSM expansion for Tele1 Europe in Sweden.

Tele1 Europe is the first Scandinavian operator to select Ericsson's 3G WCDMA system. Based on WCDMA technology, Ericsson's 3G system can also be referred to as UMTS, a European denomination for 3G. UMTS stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System.

The license process in Sweden is awarding the operators based on coverage and the rate of development of the 3G systems and services. The National Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) of Sweden will make the list of awarded operators public in November. Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (PT) will make the list of awarded operators public in October-November.
