New Merrill Update - some excerpts We think last quarter’s gross margin, an upside surprise to Wall Street, came in close to management’s expectation. Sun seems confident in a June quarter profit and perhaps September as well given that management does not want results to dip back into the red. • Sun recently held a meeting with almost 1,000 partners represented. The company is pursuing virtual solutions with best-of-breed coalitions versus IBM’s one stop shop. Our sense is that Sun truly does partner better with ISVs and system integrators than the competition. Sun gained share against IBM in the March quarter. • We think Sun must turn Linux to its advantage, drawing developers into its tent. Linux at the low end and Solaris above may meld into “Solinux.” (S. Milunovich)
