I think it was just a reaction to Biden going off-message. Everyone knows Obama is really pro gay marriage and in his second term, he plans to 'evolve' and issue some kind of executive order enforcing it nationally. Everyone know he's just been pretending not to be pro gay marriage to get re-elected. But it doesn't do him any good politically to pretend when his own Veep has broken ranks with him.
