I don't think so. CPQ and MSFT have a very strong link. Much stronger than Dell, from what I gather. While cpq states that they will support Digital's systems for another 5 years, their biggest plus is getting customers to standardize on Windows 2000 platform. That's how they see moving up the food chain in the enterprise.

Rather than 2 camps, a better graphic would be two overlapping solar systems, with intc and msft as the two suns and the various hardware and software folks as planets/stars. CPQ is now a bigger planet than Dell orbiting around both intc and msft, with several "moons" of Alpha chip, VAX, Tandem, Alta Vista etc.

It is a very dynamic system, with companies moving closer in some endeavors and farther away on others.

I don't know if this makes any sense, but it is one way to look at it.
