THREAD, CPQ's goal is to rely less on Intel, if it results in an equal or better performing product at a lower price. I cannot get into all the details, as Steve cannot either, but although Steve's comments came across a bit strange, (the CPQ "financing" part) he is basically correct.
CPQ and Intel have a great business relationship. But Intel, knows as best as any company, and understands CPQ's concern, and that to continue to dominate, you must reinvent yourself constantly.
CPQ, as any competent PC maker would, wants more choices, better performance, lower costs, and OPTIONS.
I usually don't don't come to Steve's rescue, as I am the one who usually throws him in the pool,(-g-) but I really feel its important for CPQ stockholders to realize that CPQ is aggressively looking for ways to lessen its reliance on Intel if it results in better products, and increased shareholder value.
