hi pw, i don't use it with communicator4.51. i never thought to try it til you posted it. but i did just try it and it doesn't work for me. don't know if that's cause i need to change a setting for my keyboard, or if it's browser-related? because you piqued my curiosity (you piqued!), i opened ie4.0 just now and tried the backspace key. it worked! so i answered my own question. looks like it doesn't work in netscape. :) mark
