Cisco, IBM Integrate Business Security
Online staff -- Electronic News, 2/13/2004

IBM and Cisco Systems today announced they intend to integrate various products to allow customers to build self-defending, security environments for systems, applications and networks.

The integrated security technologies, IBM and Cisco said, will let security enforcement points within businesses "talk" to each other and help identify systems that are not compliant with established security policies. When non-compliant systems or threats are detected, the IBM and Cisco security technologies can automatically adapt to security breaches, it was said.

Initially Cisco and IBM will deliver new integration between the Cisco Secure Access Control Server and IBM Tivoli Identity Manager software, and integration between embedded IBM security chips and Cisco virtual private network solutions.

IBM will also join the Cisco Network Admission Control program and plans to integrate certain Tivoli security management software with Cisco infrastructure products that are involved in the program. Furthermore, IBM Global Services will be on hand for customer support, if requested.

The IBM Tivoli Identity Manager agent for Cisco Secure Access Control Server is planned for availability in March. Integration between the IBM embedded security subsystem and the Cisco VPN client is currently available.
