"To this day, I don't think the Rs on this thread realize the impact these CDSs and CDOs had on this country's financial systems."

They can't. Because to do so is to admit their theories have failed. Not just once, but multiple times. They want to pretend that if only things were different, they would have been proven different. The fact of the matter is that every time they got their way, we have suffered a collapse. Every time they lost, we had a Golden Age. I will grant them that correlation doesn't equal causation. But, at some point you have to wonder.

If I try X I lose. If I try Y I win. Given several cycles and that holds true, at what point do I go with the correlation?

For the wingnuts, the answer is zero. There is always an exception that explains why they lost. For the pragmatists, there is some small multiple that demands they try something different. But, pragmatists are not True Believers. So they are fence sitters, neither fish nor fowl. The idea is to be ideologically pure even if it means disaster.
