Vital Statistics - 3/7/00

DVD title sales are down, but not out. According to VideoScan?s First Alert Reporting Retailers, for the week ending Feb. 27, 2000, DVD title sales were 679,000 yielding a year-to-date sales total of 5,948,000.

According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), for the week ending Feb. 25, 2000, DVD player unit sales to dealers were up drastically from the past few weeks to 215,732, a 295.7 percent increase over this week last year. Projection television sales were 41,409, a 4.9 percent increase. Month-to-date, DVD player sales are somewhat low at 401,035, a 266.6 percent increase over Feb. 1999 sales and projection television sales are 104,723, a 26.8 percent increase. Year-to-date, DVD player sales are 771,066, a 228.2 percent increase over 1999 and projection television sales are 196,933, a 26.8 percent increase.
