Federal Reserve today highlights rising inflation, moves up the timing of possible rate hike

t.co

excerpts -

At the top of the hour the Federal Reserve voted to keep the federal funds rate at 0-0.25%, though the Fed median projection for the Fed funds rate now stands at 0.6% by the end of 2023 vs 0.1% at the March update. Additionally, seven Fed members now see a rate increase in 2022 vs four members as of the March projection

Meanwhile in treasuries, yields across the curve have moved higher in recent trading with the yield on the benchmark 10-yr note up five bps to 1.545%.

Key excerpts from this month's statement include:

Progress on vaccinations has reduced the spread of COVID-19 in the United States. Amid this progress and strong policy support, indicators of economic activity and employment have strengthened. The committee relayed that rates are likely to stay near current levels until maximum employment is achieved.

Additionally, the Fed noted that inflation has risen, largely reflecting transitory factors.

The Federal Reserve will continue to increase its holdings of Treasury securities by at least $80 billion per month and of agency mortgage-backed securities by at least $40 billion per month until substantial further progress has been made toward the Committee's maximum employment and price stability goals.
