The irony is that it cost my two neighbors $80,000 for the line extension to get on the grid. My total solar/diesel outlay in less than 30k after my latest additions. Except for diesel(about 35 gal/mo) and $500 worth of batteries every 4 years my costs are fixed for the next 25+ years. Even the generator is good for over 50k hours. it only goes on for 2 hrs. to fully recharge the batteries. Uses .4 gal/hr. In the winter when it is much sunnier i doubt the generator will go on more than once or twice a week.
