I have found my largest viewing pleasure is searching foreign films around the world on Netflix and Prime.

The new crop of young writers and directors are really producing some amazing stuff.

I especially like the modern existential view that is increasingly being the theme; and the fact the young directors are addressing old venal primitive norms and mores of racism, sexism, homophobia and patriarchal cultures the east has so much trouble with.

I think South Korea produces the best movies in terms of depth and perfection of every aspect. They produce movies like they are writing an A+ term paper. And as they are so highly educated most have depth somewhere if you look.

And a lot of their movies present a sensitive and surrealistic portrayal of what an ideal society might look like i.e. they have it in their minds eye.

The Japanese are often brilliant and might produce anything as they often seem to be off in outer space somewhere and very Avant - Garde . Sort of ironic a culture so conservative for so long is now one of the most existential in the world.

The French are third, IMO, as their stuff is profound and very existential which makes sense, but they don't stretch outward so much, but keep it very parochial, which is weird.

Parochial existentialism-lol.

But I find every country has its geniuses and finding them, and seeing what they have to say, is my pleasure in my old age.
