I don't see it as the Gov. setting the standards, but from my perspective, it does seem as if MSFT seems to control to much of the desktop, which actually stifels growth....I'm glad I don't have to sit in the jsutices spot when they have to come up with a better solution, but it does seem apparent to me that msft clearly does not present a good argument today that they are a technology leader, simply a marketing machine.....It is my opinion & most techies agree that there are better ways of configuring an OS such as win/98 or even NT2000 but the other competing technologies are fighting the "I won't get fired for buying MSFT" mindset....somehow I think that needs to change so everyone can compete more effectively.....maybe there is no fair answer, but eventually, down the road, I do believe the best or very near the best, technologies do win...Either MSFT will have to create that themselves , or Bill Gates will drop of the wealthiest list and get passed up by a few other folks.....My bet is that happens over the next 5 years. |
