"Its worrisome.........if the Swine flu is mutating, a mild pandemic can turn into something much more ugly."

There is no such thing as a mild pandemic. Especially when when we aren't in the prime flu season. Flu's mutate. That is what they do.

The problem here is that swine flu seems to trigger a cytokine storm. For those who aren't a fan of ReGenesis, this means the immune system over-responds. And that means if your immune system is compromised, you will live. Otherwise, you are at risk. Apparently. that is one theory why the Spanish Flu killed so many of a group who should have survived. While that isn't the official version, cytokine storms are not unknown. There is an endemic disease in the Philippines, which was the model for a ReGenesis episode, which presents exactly such a challenge. Given that about half of the fatalities are those who one would expect to survive, even an unmutated swine flu can be be a major killer. At the moment, no. But in prime flu season? Old farts and children aren't at risk. The ones who are at their prime, are. And they are the ones most likely to travel and spread it.
