The market has continued to move sideways despite twists and turns since the beginning of this year.
Moving averages are now converging.

What does this mean? Short term and long term support for stocks is under pressure. So, how the market handles this test is a big deal.

I think that despite all of the negative hoopla including Apple's miss and Europe's woes that our market will hold up. I'm concentrating on stocks that the market has ignored. Stocks that are able to dictate their own direction at this time. Stocks that offer value just on the basis that our market will hold up.

I agree with your hold strategy while shedding weak positions and taking profit in long term holds. When to sell? I would say that selling to take long term profit in the defensive sectors, like pharmaceuticals and utilities, that have reaped the most benefit out of market volatility makes sense. Holding stocks in your porfolio with a profit in negative performance sectors or stocks that are leading their sectors also makes sense.
