The Europeans always did have a good apprentice program for kids.....even if the child came from a wealthy family, they were to learn a trade as an apprentice at age 16.....I have several ancestors from various European countries and as near as I can tell, they all learned a trade. One was a shoemaker, one was a cook, several were winemakers (from Luxembourg)... EXCELLENT practice, IMO~!
