One thing I've become convinced of though is that Islamic countries can't handle the kind of democracy we have.
I think it is more Arab than Islam. Although they are corrupt and messy, several of the non-Arab islamic countries have a form of democracy. Semi-regular elections, and at least occasional peaceful transfer of power. Indonesia, Bangladesh, even Pakistan at times. In the Arab world the only functioning democracy ever has been Lebanon, and it worked best when the Christians dominated.
