Agree: backfired by creating an attitude of entitlement to the fruits of the labor of others Perhaps we should review the 40 year old "war on poverty" that has been around since at least Reagans speech in 1964, and ask questions.... Things like: How much TOTAL money has been spent on the poverty issues over the last 40 years. How many people have been recipients of this aid over the last 40 years. What were the numbers of people partaking of this money when the program started, and what are the numbers today? What has happened to the children of 40 years ago? Are they still in the system as recipients, or have they gone on to be productive citizens? Did we "just give them fish," or did we "teach them how to fish?"
