[Earnings projections]
Juli --
Thanks for responding. In researching numbers for comparisons, I dredged up last year's report:
<<< Burnaby, B.C., Canada - March 3, 1997 - Spectrum Signal Processing (NASDAQ NMS: SSPIF / TSE: SSY) today reported record quarterly revenue for the three months ended December 31, 1996 of $12,979,000 compared to $7,554,000 for the same period a year ago, representing a 72% increase. Revenue for the year ended December 31, 1996 was $36,914,000, an increase of 43% compared to revenue of $25,746,000 for the year ended December 31, 1995.
For the fourth quarter of 1996 Spectrum reported after tax earnings of $1,213,000 or $0.13 per share compared to net earnings of $85,000 or $0.01 per share in fourth quarter of 1995. For the year ended December 31, 1996, the Company reported after tax earnings of $2,150,000 or $0.23 per share versus a net loss of $1,030,000 or ($0.11) per share for the comparable period in 1995.>>>
It looks as though they have to beat $0.13 for Q4 and $0.23 for the year.
So far this year earnings total $0.17, leaving $0.08 for this quarter. If they only hit the prior quarter's $0.06, they'll be $0.02 shy. If they meet a year ago's quarter, they'll be $0.07 over. When we're told earnings will be flat, I hope it means compared to last year.
Later --
