I quit smoking several years ago, though, and was not paying much attention to smoking habits in Paris.

I was referring to how smoking is still very usual everywhere in France, as opposed to how it is forbidden almost everywhere in some cities in the US. Here, you pass nights literally under a cloud in bars and even some restaurants. Good luck finding even a non-smoking section...

I smoke from time to time, generally when I have a glass of wine in front of me - Philip Morris slims (you know, the really thin little cigarettes)
