Wes:

There is a possibility that this cycle will not be as intense as prior cycles. So far microprocessor and logic spending has been very strong. Dram spending has been mostly strategic (to shrink die size)while some Korean firms are expanding into 64MB already. The Japanese firms have not began any significant 64MB spending. Expectations are that the major bulk of 64MB spending will take place in 1998. But by then microprocessor and logic spending will be winding down. So instead of having everybody spending at once, it looks like its going to be spread out.

There are other forces that will play a role. One is the move to Digital in phones and TV. This could provide another major boost to the semi equipment companies that depending on timing will extend the potetial for the stock prices and the industry's growth.

Happy investing,
Ray
