re: "AMD fans claim that just the Dresden fab can supply the entire 150 million per year demand for processors."

Some AMD fans are very optimistic. AMD has stated they are "at capacity" at Dresden while the facility has never produced more than a run-rate of about 20-25M/year. Of course they are moving to 0.13 which adds about 60% and apparently increasing wafer runs -- to really be at capacity? However, Hammers will be about 25% larger and the Athlons are scheduled for additional cache (256->512) in 4Q02.

EDIT: As you noted, AMD has entered into an agreement with UMC. The agreement provides for foundry services (4Q02->1Q03 start?), access to research facilities on existing 300mm lines and a joint venture for a 10,000 WPW 300mm 0.065 fab scheduled for startup in 2005 or so.
