re: Is it possible the K6 is actually putting a dent into the INTC market share?

Sorry just don't know, I had one of these little CPQ K6 sub $1000. systems in the shop for a memory upgrade the other day but don't know how there selling, and I might ad that I didn't think much of it, but I guess that shows.

In my paranoid way I think CPQ is making a break with Intel,
considering Compaq's acquisition of DEC.

DEC recently announced that its Alpha 21264 processors, schedule to ship before the year 2000, will break 1000 MHz speed barrier.

Now this becomes CPQ's chip and I think what we are seeing has more to do with the future competition between CPQ and Intel. Perhaps with Intel trying to stymie a future competitor.

Where CPQ was a partner with Intel they will soon become a major competitor.
