I don't know that I agree with you. Have you been to a Walmart lately? The point is that Americans value freedom even when the result might not be good for us. For example, I personally would much rather take the risk that a %@$#^@%&#%$$$ terrorist will blow up my airplane than have to endure all the delays, probing, and expense of having TSA agents stand around. Sure, your points about swilling, unhealthy food, smoking, and so forth reflect European lifestyles that are not regulated by their governments, unless I am mistaken and they just defy their government.
