McCain.. said... that Sen. Barack Obama, would be "absolutely qualified to be president, should the voters elect him."
Of course, McCain thinks Sarah Palin is qualified to be president should he get hit by a bus, so I guess we shouldn't take him too seriously on that, should we?
Obama, I think, has displayed the traits we want in a president: he a powerful communicator... perhaps as good as Reagan, Kennedy, Roosevelt and Lincoln.
He's also intelligent, intellectually curious, pragmatic - not ideological, he reportedly listens well and solicits opinions, has assembled a competent team of formal and informal advisors, is physically and mentally up to the demands of the job, analytical, a good administrator (his campaign is model of efficiency), politically astute (taking the nomination from Hillary was no small feat), keeps his ego and personality in check, and has displayed good judgement and courage (in speaking out against the Iraqi war at when it was politically popular). He also succeeded without the help of influential family, suggesting an uncommon drive and perseverance. While his unique background and his childhood spent overseas is not in itself a qualification, it is beneficial that a president should experience firsthand different cultures. If nothing else, electing Obama would signal to the world that America is still, as, Ronald Reagan put it... "that shining city on a hill" where dreams and aspirations are still possible.
